THE WORK OF GOD

John 9:4  I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

 

Intro:  Many religious works that are not of God.

I.  GODS WORK IS TO CALL THE SINNER.

Matthew 9:13  But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice:

for I am not come to call the  righteous,  but sinners to repentance.

Luke 19:10  For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

II.  GODS WORK IS TO CLEANSE FROM SIN.

I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

I John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

John 15:3  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

III.  GODS WORK IS TO COMFORT THE SAINT.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

II Corinthians 1:3  Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

IV.  GODS WORK IS THE CARE TO SUPPLY.

I Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Philippians 4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

V.  GODS WORK IS TO CALM THE STORM.

Mark  4:39  And  he  arose,  and  rebuked  the wind, and said unto the sea.  Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Acts 27:44  And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

VI.  GODS WORK IS TO CONFIRM HIS SALVATION.

John 5:24  Verily,  verily, I  say unto you, He that heareth my word,  and beliveth  on  him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

John 3:14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

VII.        GOD’S WORK IS TO COMPLETE WHAT HE STARTS.

Philippians 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
