INTRODUCTION, Matthew 6:

1. The Purpose of Praying, Vs 5,7

Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Tonight I want to look at James 4:2-3 and preach on:

ASKING AND RECEIVING  and deal with Un-offered prayers, and Un-answered prayers.

James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

I. UN-OFFERED PRAYERS, Yet ye have not because ye ask not.

How much do you pray?

Do you have a regular prayer life?

Is it daily? twice a day, three times a day?

How much do you pray?

When I fail to pray about anything I am saying. God, I can handle this bv myself"

II. UNANSWERED PRAYERS, Ye ask and receive not because.."

1.  Something wrong in our heart,

Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

I John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

2.  Something wrong between us and a brother,

Matthew 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
Mat 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

James 4:16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

3.  Something wrong with our relationship with Christ,

John 15:7 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

4.  Something wrong between us and our spouse,

I Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

5.  Something wrong with our life,

I John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

6.  Something wrong with our faith,

Matthew 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

7.  Something wrong with our salvation,

John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
