HEAVEN, THE CITY OF GOD

Revelation 21:1 thru 22:5

Introduction:     Not much is said in the Scriptures about Heaven. Most of our thoughts about Heaven comes from songs. Tonight, I want us to take a look at the place that the child of God calls Home - Heaven the city of God and deal with four reasons I want to go there.

See Psalms 87:3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God.

A.          Abraham looked for it, Hebrews 11:9-10

Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

B.          Jesus promised it, John 14:1-3

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

C.          John wrote about it, Revelation 21

D.          We are going to live in it, John 14:3c.... that where I am, there ye may be also.

I.        THE MISSING THINGS...

1.          It's Shape, Vs 16-four square

Rev 21:16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

IV. THE MAIN ATTRACTION -The Lord Jesus Christ will be there:

1.          As a Lover to welcome us,

4.          As a Liberator to watch over us, Revelation 22:3-4

Rev 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Rev 22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
