FOUR KEY WORDS TO CHRISTIAN JOY

Romans 6:1-23

Most Christians today are striving and struggling for victory.  There is something about our flesh that always wants to do something to earn the favor of God.  Salvation commences by Grace, Salvation continues by Grace, and one day Salvation will consummate in His eternal likeness, all by the GRACE OF GOD!

In Romans 6, there are four words that are the basis for Christian victory.

 They are:

I.   KNOW.

Vs 3, 6,9, &16, (what you do not know can hurt you.)

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

There are three things you can put trust in:

1. You can trust your Feelings, but they fluctuate

2. You can trust your Friends, but they will fail you

3. You can trust facts, they are final and forever fixed

A. We must know WHAT DIED. Vs 6, The old man, not the old nature

B. We must know WHEN HE DIED, Vs 6, crucified with Christ

C. We must know WHY IT DIED, Vs 6b & 7

"That the body of sin (not the body of flesh) might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

II.   RECKON.

Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Vs 11, This means 'to count, or to calculate."

My flesh still lives and wants to sin, WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?

A. Religion says, "Crucify it." Impossible, Explain

B. Scripture says, Reckon ye also yourselves:

1. Dead indeed unto sin,

2. Alive unto God.

Feed these facts into your calculator:

1. In Christ's death I have the payment for my sins.

2. In Christ's burial I have the putting away of my sins

3. In Christ's resurrection I have power over sin

You will come up with the answer: VICTORY IN JESUS!!!

Ill.   YIELD.

Vs 13,16,19

Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

When you are saved, God enables you by His grace to take control of your life. He puts you back in the driver's seat of your life.

IV.   OBEY.

Vs 16-19

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

This simply means to do what God's Word says to do.

YOU CAN BE OBEDIENT.

Phil 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
