THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENTS

Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
Jude 1:2 Mercy unto you, and peace and love, be multiplied.
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Tonight I want to say without an apology that I am an old-fashion Independent Baptist. There was a time when that meant something, but to most people now, its means nothing. Independent Baptists have embraced many of the ideas and philosophies that we left the convention over. Tonight I want to declare the historical stand of Independent Baptists on several important doctrines of the Word of God.

In 1776, 56 men signed the Declaration of Independence. John Hancock signed his name about twice as large as the others. He said he did not want anybody having a problem seeing he signed it. Tonight I want to make again the historical Declaration of Independent Baptists and I hope you will sign your name, and your life to what I am preaching tonight.

Baptists are distinct from other denominations over five doctrines.

1.  Salvation by grace through faith alone

2.  Scriptural Baptism is for born-again believers only

3.  The Memorial Service of the Lord's Supper

4.  Eternal Life Now

5.  Local Church Autonomy

I.   THE WORD OF GOD...

Historically Independent Baptists believe the authorized King James Vension is the Word of God.

They believed it is:

A. Inspired,

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

B. Inerrant,

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

C. Infallible,

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

D. Indispensable,

Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Psalms 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

II. THE WILL OF GOD... Independent Baptists believe God wills that:

A. All Sinners be Saved,

I Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

I Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

B.  All Saved be Separated,

II Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

C.  All Saved be Spirit-filled,

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

D. All Saved be Servants,

Matthew 21:28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

-In the church, in the community, the whole creation

Ill. THE WAY TO GOD..

Independent Baptists believe Ephesians 2:8-9

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

A. Revelation by the Spirit,

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

B.  Repentance of the Sinner,

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luke 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luke 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

C.  Responding to the Scriptures,

Cp. John 5:40 & I John 5:13

John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

D. Receiving of the Savour,

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

IV. THE WORSHIP OF GOD... Independent Baptists believe

A. Worship must be Spiritual,

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

B.  Worship must be Scriptural,

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

C.  Worship must be Sacrificial,

Cp. Abraham in Genesis 22:5

Gen 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

V. THE WORK OF GOD... Independent Baptists believe in:

1.  Local Church authority over the Lord's Ministry.

2.  Local Church authority over the Lord's Meetings.

3.  Local Church authority over the Lord's Missions

4.  Local Church authority over the Lord's Money
