WHY THE BLOOD?????????

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

Even though the modernist mock and sneer at the thought of the blood as the basis of our salvation, The Bible still teaches that every sinner will be washed in the blood, or will burn in the fires of hell.

The Bible uses three different words to describe the blood of Jesus for the saints of God...

1. We have Redemption thru His blood... Eph. 1:7 This deals with our purchase.

Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

2. We have Remission thru His blood... Heb. 9:22 This deals with our past.

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

3. We have Reconciliation thru His blood...Col. 1:20 This deals with our peace.

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Thank God for these three blessed truths, but for the message today, I want to deal with the question:

"WHY THE BLOOD"

I. IT PLEASES GOD...Gen. 4:1-7

Gen 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Gen 4:2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Gen 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
Gen 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Gen 4:6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

A. Notice Cain...v 3

1. The occasion. ..not forced upon him

2. The offering... bloodless

3. The outcome... rejected

4, The opportunity.. .v 7
B. Notice Abel.. V 4

1. The occasion...not forced upon him

2. The offering... blood

3. The outcome... accepted

It took the blood to get Out of the garden, out of Egypt and it will take the blood to stay Out of Hell.

II. IT PURGES THE GUILTY. .."What can wash away my sins"
A. As Sinners:

Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

B.   As Saints:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

III. IT PROTECTS US...

A. From the wrath of God's Judgement...

B. From the reach of Satan's Jurisdiction.
