What Manner Of Person Ought Ye To Be...
II Peter 3: 9-18
Text: 2 Peter 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Seven things are taught us in these verses that show us what kind of person we ought to be in these days.
I. A LONGING PERSON... v 12 - 13 (looking & longing)
2 Pet 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2 Pet 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
1. Longing for the Person... v 12
2. Longing for the Place... v 13
3. Longing for the Peacefilness... v 13
II. A LOOKING PERSON... v 12, 13, 14

2 Pet 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
1. Looking at the fields... John 4:35
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
2. Looking at the flowers... Matt. 6:28Mat 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
3. Looking at the future... II John 82 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
III. A LOVING PERSON... v14 (beloved)
1. Love the Brethren... I John 3:14
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
2. Love the Book... Psalm 119:140
Psa 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
3. Love for the Blinded... II Cor. 4:3-4
2 Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
IV. A LOYAL PERSON... V14 (be found in Him)
2 Pet 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
1. Loyal to our Christ...
2. Loyal to our Church...
3. Loyal to our Calling...
V. A LONGSUFFERING PERSON... v 15
2 Pet 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
1. Longsuffering in our Suffering... (don't quarrel)
2. Longsuffering in our Service... (don't quit)
3. Longsuffering in our Silence... (don't fight back)
VI. A LED PERSON... v 17
2 Pet 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
1. The Right Leadership... Rom. 8:14
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
2. The Wrong Leadership... II Peter 3:17VII. A LEARNING PERSON... v 18
Many people want to grow in grace, but they are not interested in growing in the knowledge of God
2 Pet 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
1. A Spritual Growth... (grow in grace)
2. A Studious Growth... (grow in knowledge)
3. A Steady Growth... (no child becomes an adult in one day, but in a continual growing..)
