THREE OF THE GREATEST THINGS

THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN

John 1:11-13

Intro: There have been many wonderful things that have happened in the last 100 years: Electricity, Telephone, Airplanes, Computers, etc.

But there are three things greater than any of these

I. THE GREATEST TRIP......v 11,

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

"He came" Many trips of importance have been made.

--President Sadat's  trip into Israel

--Man's trip to the Moon...etc.

BUT THE GREATEST TRIP WAS WHEN "HE CAME"

1.   Where he came.....To a world that is doomed

2.   When he came......To a world in darkness... (400 years from the closing of 0.T.)

3.   Why he came....That the world might be delivered

II.    THE GREATEST TRAGEDY......V 11

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

"Received him not"

--greatest tragedy was not Iran Hostage crisis

--greatest tragedy was not Pearl Harbor

THE GREATEST TRAGEDY IS TO REJECT HIM

1.      This is to reject the greatest LOVE ever known.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

2.      The is to reject the greatest LIFE ever known Eternal life, everlasting life, enjoyable.

3.   This is to reject the greatest LORD ever...

Psalms 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

SOS 5:9-10; 16

Song 5:9 What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?
Song 5:10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.
Song 5:16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

III. THE GREATEST TRANSACTION.......V 12

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

--Many great transactions, but this is the greatest

1.          Because of the people ....'To as many' the rich, ruined, religious, rebellious

2.          Because of the plan.... 'received him' Simple child-like faith. .Eph 2:8-9

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

3.          Because of the provisions....

'Power to become Sons of God' From strangers to sons From sinners to saints....
