PUT AWAY THE TOYS 

 

I Cor 13.12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

  Intro: This verse indicates growth in:

A.  Size

B. Stability

C. Service

 

There are many toys that church members need to put away and quit acting like kids instead of grown-ups.

I.      THE TOY OF INFANCY        ...I Cor 3:1-3

A.  The deeds of infancy.....V 3

1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

B.  The diet of infancy......V 2

1 Cor 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

C.  The dress of infancy.....

D.  The deliverance from infancy...I Peter 2:2

 

II.        THE TOYS OF IGNORANCE.......I Cor 14:20

1 Cor 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
 

A.  The reason for ignorance....born that way.

B.  The remedy for ignorance....

II Tim 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

C.  The reprimand for ignorance...

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

 

III.       THE TOYS OF INSUFFICIENCY......

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

( Our churches are dying with can't-sir)

A.  The normal baby learns to walk for himself.

B.  The normal baby learns to work for himself.

C.  The normal baby learns to wait on himself.

 

IV.       THE TOYS OF INCONSISTENCY......

A.  Children are lazy.......

B.  Children are lovers of pleasure....

C.  Children are lured into things easily....

 

V.    THERE IS ONE THING IN WHICH WE ARE TO BE LIKE CHILDREN ARE......

I Cor 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

IN MALICE BE CHILDREN...Why?

A.  They forgive easily....

B.  They forget easily.....

C.  They form renewed relationships easily....

 

God help us to learn a lesson from these simple truths concerning children in the Scriptures.....
