YOU CAN BE SAVED AND KNOW IT
I John 5:9-13
1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Intro: Many folks THINK they are saved, some hope they are saved, some are trying to be, BUT THANK GOD YOU CAN KNOW IT
Today I want to deal with five ways you can know that you have been
born again....
I. BY THE WORD....
A. The Word of God Describes our Profession....
1. Realize you are a sinner....Rom 3:23
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
2. Realize Christ died for you....Rom 5:8Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
3. Receive Him as Lord... John 1:11-12John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
B. The Word of God Describes our Progression....1. Growth in Bible knowledge....II Pet. 3:18
II Pet 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
2. Growth in our Behaviour....I Cor 3:1-31 Cor 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1 Cor 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
3. Growth in Blessings....Psalm 1:2-3Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
II. BY OUR WITNESS....I John 5:10
1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
The Holy Spirit-1. Identifies us....Rom 8:9; Rom 14-16
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
2. Purifies us....Gal 5:16Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
3. Glorifies Christ in us....John 16:14John 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
4. Fortifies us....Eph 4:30; 1 John 4:4Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
III. BY OUR WILL ...II Cor 5:17; Heb 10:7
II Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
A. A will to Study....I Pet 2:21 Pet 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
B. A will to Separate,...Heb 12:1-2Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
C. A will to Surrender....Phil 2:5Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
IV. BY OUR WORKS....John 14:12
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
A. Works of Righteousness....
B. Works of Repentance....Matt 3:8Mat 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
C. Works of Reaching others....John 4:4John 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
V. BY OUR WALK....I John 2:6
1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
A. Walk in Love....Eph5:2Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
B. Walk in Light....Eph 5:8; I John 1:7Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
C. Walk in Line....Eph 5:15Eph 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Yes you can know, by the Word of a Holy God, the Witness of the Holy Ghost and a Work of Heavenly Grace....
