SOME THINGS I SEE IN THE CROSS

TO GLORY IN

Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

The central person in the Bible is Christ.

The central place in the bible is Calvary.

I.    C--CRUCIFIXION....

A. The Crucifixion was Vital....Mat 27:53-54

Mat 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Mat 27:54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

1. To the Saviour - fulfilled his purpose

2. To Scriptures - fulfilled prophecies

3. To Saints - fulfilled promise

4. To Sinners - fulfilled plan

5. To Satan - fulfilled proclamation

B. The Crucifixion was Voluntarily....John 10:17-18

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

C. The Crucifixion was Victorious....

-For the Saviour - mission accomplished

-For O.T. Scripture - message accurate

-For O.T. Saints - Messiah arrived

-For the Sinner - Mercy available

-For Satan - he became mutilated adversary

II.   R-REGENERATION....I Cor 1:18, Consists of:

1 Cor 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

A. Redemption from Satan's Grasp....Col 1:13

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

B. Remission of Sin's Guilt....Rom 3:24-25

Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

C. Reconciled to Sovereign God....Col 1:20

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

III.  O-OPPORTUNITY....

A. To be Saved from the Fire....
B. To be a Servant in his Fields....
C. To be a Sharer in his Future....

IV.  S-SUBSTITUTE.-.-He took my place....

A. In My Sufferings.... I Pet 3:18; Heb 9:26

1 Pet 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
Heb 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

B. In My Shame....Matt 27:28-30

Mat 27:28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
Mat 27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Mat 27:30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

C. In My Sins....II Cor 5:21; Isa. 53:6

2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

V.   S-SECURITY.... John 10:29

John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

I'm Secure Because of:

A. My Advocate in Glory....I John 2:1-2

I John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
I John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

B. My Assurance of Grace....Rom 5:20

Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

C. My Accomplishment at Golgotha....Gal 2:20

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
