DAVID'S REVIVAL

Psalm 51:1-15

I.    HE BECAME SORRY FOR HIS SINS....V 1-6
A. His Conviction....V 1-2
Psa 51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Psa 51:2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
-the awareness of his sins
B. His Confession....V 3-4
Psa 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Psa 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
-the acknowledging of his sins
C. His Contrition....V 4b  ....
have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:

-the attitude toward his sins
D. His Cleansing....V 7
Psa 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
-the abolition of his sins

II.    HE BECAME SICK OF HIMSELF....V 10-12
A. Sick of a dirty heart....V 10
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
B. Sick of his wrong spirit....V 10
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
C. Sick of the fear of being a castaway....V 11
Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
D. Sick of having no joy....V 12
Psa 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
E. Sick of weakness....V 12b ...
and uphold me with thy free spirit.

III. HE BECAME SURRENDERED TO SERVICE....V 13-15

Surrendered to be a TEACHER OF THE TRANSGRESSORS....V 13a ...Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
Surrendered to be a SOULWINNER OF SOULS....V 13b ...and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Surrendered to be a PROCLAIMER OF PRAISES....V 14-15
Psa 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
Psa 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Notice the Effects of David's Repentance

1. He became renewed in his strength....

2.  He became refreshed in his soul....

3. He became restored in Salvation's joy....

Real revival will never come until there is some real repentance....
Psalm 66:18; Prov 28:13; I John 1:9; IIChron7:14

Psa 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Prov 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
II John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
II Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
