Reflections on Thanksgiving

300 years have come and gone since the Pilgrims landed here,

To find new freedom in the bountiful land we hold so dear.

They left Europe to find new freedom and a place to worship God,

They paid a great price to set their feet on this sacred sod.

The first year they lost over half their number by sickness and death.

And yet they held their first Thanksgiving, thankful with every breath.

their Indian friends came to help enjoy the bounty that God did share,

Then they all bowed their heads and gave thanks to God while they were there.

God has been so very good to each of us in this land today,

We should thank God and let Him in our lives have His way.

We should always eat our food as we humbly bow our unworthy head,

And give thanks to God for all our provision and our daily bread.

For family, for friends, for children and their happy smile.

Make this and all our days of Thanksgiving a matter worthwhile.

Thank God for health and strength and the ability to be alive,

Thank Him for the things He gives us and for the things for which we strive.

We have so much for which to be thankful and much for which we can praise,

And God the honor and the glory for all things through our earthly days.

In a godless day when men live for pleasure and sin,

May we ever be mindful of where we could have been.

Today let us thank the Lord who provided our salvation true,

May we seek to honor Him and praise Him in all we say or do.

In this bountiful season let us kneel and humbly pray,

And thank God for Jesus Christ and this Thanksgiving Day!
