CHRISTIAN CONSECRATION
(Romans 12:1,2)

"After doctrine comes duty; after revelation, responsibility; after
principle, practice. The just shall LIVE." W. H. G. Thomas
Rom. 1-11 teaches doctrine, revelation and principle
Rom. 12-16 teaches our duty, responsibility, practice

1. WHO CAN BE CONSECRATED.
a. ONLY BELIEVERS.

Rom. 12:1 "I beseech you...brethren" only these who are born again, thus "brethren". See Heb. 12:3
b. ALL BELIEVERS.

Rom. 12:1 "brethren" all who can bear that name. None exempt,

2. WHAT IS TO BE CONSECRATED.

a. THE BODY. See I Cor. 6:19,20.
Rom. 12:1 "your bodies a living sacrifice".
In grace Jesus became a dead Sacrifice - Rom, 3:25
In gratitude we come living sacrifices. " 12:1
See also I Peter 2:24.
b. THE MIND.

Rom. 12:2 "be ye transformed by renewing of your mind".
carnal mind Rom. 8:7,

spiritual mind Rom. 8:6. Col. 3:1, 2.

3. HOW TO BECOME CONSECRATED.
a. BY OUR YIELDING.

Rom. 12:1 "present (yield)" same word in Rom. 6:13
This "presentation" is voluntary. See Lev. 1:3;

b. BY GOD'S RENEWAL or BEING TRANSFORMED. 16:7.
As we yield. God transforms us. See Mt. 17:2
"good for us to be here" Is it good to be with consecrated folks?

4. WHY WE SHOULD BE CONSECRATED.

a. BECAUSE OF GOD'S MERCY.

Rom. 12:1 "therefore...by the mercies of God"

b. BECAUSE IT IS REASONABLE. See R. 9:16; 11:32
Rom. 12:1 "your reasonable service"
I Cor. 6:20 "ye are bought...therefore glorify God."

5. THE RESULT OF CONSECRATION.

Rom. 12:2 That ye may prove what is...will of God"
This includes three things;

a. TO KNOW GOD'S WILL.

"prove what is"--and what is not--God's will Col. 1:9
b. TO DO GOD'S WILL

"prove" it in actual performance. Eph. 5:17 Jn. 1:10
c. TO ENJOY GOD'S WILL

"prove" it to be good (not harmful), acceptable (not unpleasant)

& perfect (not partial).
