THE BIBLE: ITS EVIDENCES

1. THE EVIDENCE FROM ITS UNITY.

The 66 books were written in 3 languages over a period of 1000 years by over 30 men from widely different walks of life, in many countries and under varied circumstances, yet they all harmonize perfectly. Such unity demands a single mind as Author.

This unity is seen in its common subject: the person and work of Christ.

Gen. 3:15; Deut. 18:15; Is. 42:1; Matt, 1:1; Jno. 5:39; 20:30, 31; I Cor. 2:2; Heb. 3:1; Rev. 1:1,2.

2. THE EVIDENCE FROM ITS TEACHING.

(a) CONCERNING GOD. The Bible gives the only satisfactory concept of God. Apart from the Bible God is unknown. Acts 17:22, 23. Human opinions of God are inadequate. I Cor. 2:144.

(b) CONCERNING MAN. The Bible declares all men to be sinners and lost. It does not hide the sins of even its greatest characters. This universal condemnation is contrary to natural human opinion. Rom. 3:10, 12, 19; EccI. 7:20.

(c) CONCERNING SALVATION. The Bible offers the only work-able remedy for sin. By nature we trust in our goodness. In contrast, the Bible declares that salvation Is entirely of God and wholly of grace-a gift. Eph. 2:8, 9; Rom. 4:5.

(d) CONCERNING MORALITY. Its instructions as to behavior are consistent with all true morality. It produces holiness. It makes men like God, Its Author. This is not true of other sacred books. Psa. 119:9, 11; John 17:17.

3. THE EVIDENCE FROM ITS PROPHECIES.

Read aloud note No.2 in Schofield Bible on page 1318.

(a) Prophecies of world history. Dan. 2:3743.

(b) Predictions of Christ Isa. 7:14; Isa. 53:7-10; Ps. 22:1~16.

(c) Types of Christ. 0. T. sacrifices, tabernacle, Joseph, etc.

4. THE EVIDENCE FROM ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

(a) IT IS INDESTRUCTIBLE. Despite persecution, ridicule, and argument, its mighty influence has

continued and increased. It cannot be destroyed-it is of God. Mk. 13:31.

Illustration, Jer. 36:21-23, 27, 28.

(b) IT IS INEXHAUSTIBLE. It meets every need and solves every problem

II Tim. 3:16, 17. Like Its Author, it is infinite. Men's books are finite.

(c) IT TRANSFORMS LIVES. I Thess. 2:13. (Luther & Gal. 3:1 1).

5. THE EVIDENCE FROM OUR OWN EXPERIENCE.

(a) It brought us to God. II Tim. 3:15.

(b) It keeps us for God. Psa. 40:11.

(c) It satisfies us with God. Jer. 15:16.

Such a book must be from God.
