I. THE BIBLE IN THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF THE LORD JESUS.

1. WHEN A CHILD HE LOVED AND TALKED ABOUT THE BIBLE.

Luke 2:44-50. (It was the Word of His Father in heaven).

APPLICATION: The heart of a child is good ground in which to sow the seed, the Word of God. II Tim. 3:15.

2. WHEN TEMPTED HE USED THE BIBLE TO OVERCOME SATAN.

Matt. 4:4, 7, 10. The only weapon He used was the Bible.

APPLICATION: God has given us the very same weapon with which to conquer Satan and temptation. Ephesians 6:17.

 

3. WHEN PRAYING HE REFERRED TO THE WORD OF GOD.

John 17:8, 12, 14, 17. (Compare 'Lord's Prayer" with 0. T.)

APPLICATION: If we pray according to God's Word we know we are praying in His will.

(See I John. 5:14-15).

 

4. HE RECOGNIZED THAT THE 0. T. PROPHECIES WERE FULFILLED.

In HIMSELF. John 5:39, 5:46, 13:18-19, 15:25, Mat. 5:17, Luke 22:37, Luke 24-27, Hebrews 10:7.

 

II. THE BIBLE IN THE PUBLIC MINISTRY OF THE LORD JESUS.

 

1. HE USED THE BIBLE WHEN DEALING WITH INDIVIDUALS.

Nicodemus. John 3:10 and 14-15.

The direct use of the Bible in personal work is necessary. Cf. Acts 8:30-37.

 

2. HE USED THE BIBLE WHEN PREACHING IN PUBLIC.

Luke 4: 16-21, Matt. 11:7, 9, 10. See also II Tim. 4:1.

 

3. HE USED THE BIBLE TO COMFORT AND INSTRUCT HIS DISCIPLES.

Matt. 13:10, 13, 14-16. Matt. 26:30-31.

Matt. 11:2-5, He reassured John the Baptist by the 0. T.

 

4. HE USED THE BIBLE TO REBUKE AND HARM HIS ENEMIES.

Mark 7:56, Matt. 21:1~17, Matt. 21:12-13, Luke 17:29-30.

God's Word, not mans, will convict the conscience.

 

5. HE USED THE BIBLE TO REFUTE ERROR AND HERESY.

Matt. 22:29, 31, 32, Matt. 19:3-6, Matt. 22:4146.

Matt. 12:2-8, He quoted the 0. T. to answer criticism.

 

6. HE USED THE BIBLE INCIDENTS TO ILLUSTRATE HIS MESSAGES.

Matt. 6:28-30, Matt. 12:38A2, Luke 17:29-30, John 3:14.
