
REVELATION: CHAPTERS 17 & 18
INTRO:
1. Babylonianism began with Nimrod, the grandson of Han;
who
was under the curse of Noah.
(Gen. 9:25, 10:6,8-10)
2. Babylon is mentioned in scripture over 100 times.
3. In the New Testament, 30 times.
4.
Babylon means confusion. It stands for corrupt power
and corrupt religion.
WHAT WAS BABYLON?
1. The ancient city of Nimrod. (Gen. 11:1-9, 10:8-16)
2. The first Gentile world-wide empire. Dan. 2:36-38; Dan. 7:4
WHAT IS BABYLON?
1. Babylon is a great apostate religious system.
a.
It will be what is left of the religious world after the
rapture of the bride.
BUT: BABYLON IS MORE THAN THAT:

Babylon is this Satanic world system, in all of its Godless,
pagan, heathen, commercial, economic, religious, and political
character.
The system is wholly evil and is presided over by the devil.
He is the prince of the powers of the air; the god of this world
system. (Eph. 2:2, 6:12; 1 Jo. 5:19; Jas. 4:4; 1 Jo. 2:15-17)
3. Babylon is this corrupt economic and political system.
4. Babylon is spiritual ignorance, apostasy, and delusion.
THE CHARACTER OF BABYLON:
1. Babylon commits spiritual fornication. 17:2
2. Is the enemy of people of God. 17:6
3. Has great power and support. 17:1, 15
4. Is rich in worldly goods. 17:4
5. Is yoked with political power. 17:3, 7-8
THE SINS OF BABYLON
1. Murders God's people. 17:6, 18:24
2. Aids this world system. 18:3
3. Her sins are many. 18:5
4. Glorifies herself, lives in luxury. 18:7
5. Deceives the nations. 18:23
Many
Bible expositors see religious Babylon described in Rev. Chapter
17 and political Babylon in Chapter 18. It may be very difficult to
separate the two.
BABYLON IN CHAPTER 18

WHY COME OUT OF BABYLON?
1. To escape her pollution...18:3

To escape her plagues, and the guilt of her sins, and her

THE DESTINY OF BABYLON
