Follow The Light

              The Sewing Corner

The Sewing Corner (written when a friend turned against me, falsely accusing me of something that someone else did. I was hurt, crushed by her vindictive words and bitterness started to grow. But God let me know that I had to turn my feelings over to Him and he would remove the hurt and bitterness and repair our relationship. I did. I started praying, not for her to change, but for God to change me so I could understand what she was going through. When she and her husband were getting a divorce, he had stolen her children away and for several months she couldn't locate them. She thought I knew where they were (I didn't), and blamed me for not telling her. One of her relatives had known and hadn't told her. Praise God, she eventually got her precious children back! This was about 20 years ago, but when I reread the poem, I can remember so clearly going to her at work (we worked together) and breaking down and crying and telling her that I'd been on my knees every night praying for her and the children and praying for God to help me know what she was going through. God did heal our relationship and today, although she lives in another state, we are still very good friends and correspond by email. She's visited us several times in the last few years when she's traveled to South Carolina. I learned that it is not enough to just forgive someone, we have to ask God's forgiveness too. Yes, she wrongfully accused me and she probably should have apologized first, but that's not how things always work out. So God let me know to go to her first and apologize for any wrongful "feelings" I had toward her. Sometimes we have to make the first move so God can work in the other person's heart with love and reconciliation.)

THE SEWING CORNER

Instill in me compassion, Lord,

while cutting out my pride.

Now take away all bitterness

and cruel words set aside.

Baste into place Your Love, Lord,

and tie off all my greed.

Now clothe my heart in faithfulness,

to follow where You lead.

Sew up my wounded spirit, Lord,

with threads of purest gold.

Now help me be a blessing to

my neighbor's weary soul.

God sends suffering into my life, not to make me bitter, but to make me better.
