But My God... (oh, how often we want more and more "things" in life. Brand name clothes instead of home-sewn ones, expensive shoes instead of a discount store's brand. My children often had little "new things" and I know in school some of the other children of more wealthy families had "better" things and would "put down" my children because we didn't have as much. But it was so much more important for us to send most of our children to a Christian school than to have material things. For a couple of years 6 of our children attended Christian school at the same time. Then because of finances, we had to put the boys into public school. I still regret that as one of our sons later dropped out of school to get a job. Yes, sometimes we have to sacrifice the comforts of a new car, larger home, or even having a dishwasher (which, at the time, I thought I "really" needed). But it is worth every sacrifice to give our children a Christian education. Our last son got to go to a Christian school for all 12 years and then on to college (which God provided the funds for, not us). One very important thing I learned when I wrote this poem is in the final line. It is not what I want...but what HE DETERMINES I need.)
BUT, MY
GOD
I fretted and I worried
over my bills to pay,
until I learned to trust God
for financial help each day.
I didn't get the foolish "things"
I wanted through my greed,
but everything He gave me,
supplied my every need.
He opened heaven's windows
and from His vast supply
poured blessings He'd reserved for me
that money couldn't buy.
I have health and happiness,
joy and security,
a place where I can worship,
and a loving family.
But the most important blessing
I ever have received
was eternal salvation
when on Christ I first believed.
So no more do I fret,
and no more do I worry,
and I've learned to be thankful
and not get in a hurry,
For my precious Lord and Savior
listens when I plead
and never gives me less than
what He determines that I need.
Phillipians 4:19 But my god shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
